World Languages Case Study: Spanish Spelling Lists, G1–G6

Client: Zaner-Bloser

Proposition

  • Develop spelling lists for G1–G6 to address the Spanish spelling TEKS
  • Develop a Scope & Sequence for each grade to ensure coverage of all spelling TEKS in that grade
  • Write 36 or 42 spelling lists per grade, with no repeated words
  • Write word-agnostic class spelling activities for teachers to use with students in each grade
  • Editorial review and QA of all page passes

Multiple-Choice Reading Questions Development

  • Develop multiple-choice questions for G1–G6 fiction and nonfiction texts that create meaningful and authentic learning experiences
  • Create questions that aim to promote and strengthen students’ literal and inferential comprehension skills while evaluating their understanding of a text
  • Focus on the big concepts and understandings of a text through engaging and creative questions
  • Include screenshots or excerpts to support students in answering the question

ELA Case Study: Texas STAAR and TELPAS Practice Tests

Client: EMC

Proposition

  • Develop practice tests for STAAR reading and writing G6–G8, English I, English II
  • Develop practice tests for TELPAS reading, writing, speaking, and listening G6–G7, G8–G9, G10–G12
  • Create a complete blueprint for each practice test to ensure standards coverage and a variety of passages and item types that mirror the STAAR and TELPAS testing experience
  • Write new passages, perform literature searches
  • Complete all page composition work in InDesign, including template creation and image research and placement
  • Illustration development for TELPAS tests

Schedule

  • Original schedule was 3 months for middle school and 3 months for high school tests, totaling 6 months
    • 54 questions per test
    • 5–8 passages per STAAR test

  • Research replacement passages to align to skills, Lexile, and word count, revising as needed
  • Write and edit nearly 600 assessment items, including multiple choice, short answer, and text-dependent analysis prompts
