Peter D. Reid

Director, Design and Digital

Peter brings over thirty-five years of experience in design and project management for educational publishing to CSA Education. As Director, Design and Digital, Peter oversees and leads design and digital development including photo research, art acquisition, print development, digital media development, and offshore production. He shapes the design culture at CSA and is the first contact for clients concerning design needs. 

Starting in 1985, Peter served in various leadership roles in design at Ligature, McDougal Littell, Pearson, Holt Rinehart and Winston, and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. As Director of Design at Pearson, he led the company’s first venture into digital development, where he produced award-winning science, literature, social studies, world languages, and math programs. At Holt McDougal, he was a Senior Design Manager, producing one of the company’s best-selling social studies programs that helped increase Holt McDougal’s market share by twelve percent in its first year of sales. In 2003, Peter joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as Senior Design Architect. During his tenure, he captured new markets for the company by producing the company’s flagship middle school science program. He was a team leader and participated in producing the company’s first full math program offered on electronic tablets. He also managed several cross-functional teams to produce textbooks in science and technology, positioning Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to take fifty-three percent of market share in this category. As a Project Design Manager at SPi Global, he managed project financials, negotiated contracts, managed art buying, and directed offshore teams to produce massive instructional programs for a variety of clients.

Peter’s projects and accomplishments include the following:

  • Piloting and testing a “Content 2.0” proprietary system at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt that created new products and analyzed new markets
  • Receiving the “Top Video: Instructional” award from the American Center for Design for a series of videos that complemented a literature series for Grades 6–12
  • Acting as a client content lead for design development across print and technology for SPi Global

Peter holds a BFA degree in graphic design from the Rhode Island School of Design. He also holds a certificate in Computers in Education/Gaming from Northwestern University and a certificate in People Management and Project Management from the American Business Association. He holds certificates in agile workflows (CSM), Project Management (PMO), and UI/UX (Careerfoundry). Peter loves learning new technologies and computer programs and is proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe XD, Asana, Habitat, and Jira, and a growing list of online tools.

Peter is an avid fly fisherman, foodie, film fan, and seeker of new experiences. He has climbed the 14,000-foot peak of Mount Huron in Colorado and has ridden in a submarine off the coast of Australia.
