Reading Month Book Drive for Joseph Kellman Elementary School

March is National Reading Month—something we get excited about at CSA Education! Not only is it a time to honor Dr. Seuss and celebrate his birthday, but it’s also a month to spotlight a key component of education.

Adopt-A-School Book Drive

Administrators at Joseph Kellman Elementary celebrate Dr. Seuss!

In honor of National Reading Month, CSA is running a book drive for our Adopt-a-School initiative, partnering with Children First Fund (CFF) to support Joseph Kellman Elementary School in Chicago. Throughout the month of March, we are collecting new books to fill the classroom libraries at Joseph Kellman Elementary School. Our goal is to add a collection of books on topics such as civics, technology, and science for each PreK–8 classroom. CSA has created a wishlist of culturally relevant titles for all grade levels. Donors can purchase directly from the wishlist and CSA staff will hand-deliver the donations to the school in early April.

Chances are, if you’re reading this blog post, you’re connected to the education industry and are well aware of the benefits of reading! However, the benefits of cultural relevance are sometimes overlooked. Culturally relevant books help readers and students feel more connected and engaged, since they can build on and relate to the experiences or topics of the text. Familiar stories provide an opportunity for children to express their cultural uniqueness and learn more about the different aspects of themselves and their classmates. With this book drive, CSA hopes to support the students and teachers at Joseph Kellman Elementary School and encourage the joy of reading.

The mission of the Children First Fund (CFF) is to promote the growth and success of Chicago Public Schools (CPS) through philanthropy and partnerships. They serve as a knowledge hub and liaison between CPS and its community of partners. By matching resources provided by external donors and partners with the students, schools, and staff that need them most, CFF maximizes the impact of CPS’ partnerships and advances the CPS Vision.

CSA has worked with the CFF School Partnership Program for almost two years now. We have helped support Joseph Kellman Elementary School with a variety of different initiatives and drives. As a US-owned and Chicago-based company, CSA was drawn to support this initiative and students in our community.

The mission of Joseph Kellman Elementary School is to create a stimulating and inquiry-based learning environment for active literacy engagement, mathematics proficiency, academic achievement, and digital citizenship for all students. They strive to become a model of rigorous academic success to enhance student socio-emotional development and technological advancement to meet demands.
