Interviewer: What is your name?

Angel: Angelique Chavez

Interviewer: What is your position at CSA?

Angel: I am the Director of Project Management.

Interviewer: What does that position entail?

Angel: I provide leadership, direction, guidance, and coaching to the Project Management team and the broader project team in relation to approach, activities, risks, issues, and general management. I often manage projects as well, where I work with the teams to plan, organize, execute, and monitor all aspects of the project while keeping us in scope, within budget, and on schedule.

Interviewer: How did you become a part of CSA?

Angel: I worked in higher-ed publishing for 20 years when I decided to venture into other areas of the publishing world. I have always been interested in K–12 ed pub and when I saw the job opening, I felt like it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. I was intrigued and impressed by what I saw on the website and just felt like it would be a great fit. My feeling was right; I am very happy here.

Interviewer: What is the best part of your job?

Angel: I think the best part of my job is getting to work with the various departments on multiple disciplines. As Project Managers, we get to touch on a variety of projects in several subject areas, which keeps the job interesting. I’m also a people person, and this diversity allows me to be in contact with a wide range of contributors on a daily basis.

Interviewer: What do you wish people knew about your work at CSA?

Angel: Project management is a collaborative and evolving process. Though we may have similar projects, no two are alike so they never have the same schedule or workflow. This requires us to remain agile and work together throughout the project to keep things moving forward.

Interviewer: What do you wish schools focused on more in terms of education and why?

Angel: I wish schools would focus more on available careers and career development. I don’t think that kids are taught about the wide variety of careers available.

Interviewer: What are three interesting facts about you?

Angel: I love to travel. I mostly travel within the United States, but hopefully will get out of the country more often. I also have a creative side that I dip into from time to time with cooking and painting. With my love of travel, I try to mimic dishes from where I have visited. I also love to play (and watch) sports. In recent years, I’ve played in adult volleyball and kickball leagues. My most recent sport is pool. I joined a league not too long ago and inherited a cue named Hollywood.
