Interviewer: What is your position at CSA?
Katie: Senior Director, STEM and Alignment
Interviewer: What does that position entail?
Katie: I oversee the content development teams for Math, Science, and Career and Technical Education (CTE), as well as our Alignment team.
Interviewer: How did you become a part of CSA?
Katie: I have been working in educational publishing for over 20 years, starting on the publisher side of the business at what is now Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and working on the vendor side as well. Over my career, I have made some amazing connections, including colleagues who were working at CSA and encouraged me to join this amazing team.
Interviewer: What is the best part of your job?
Katie: Developing solutions and building relationships. Being involved in so many different types of projects means I get to flex my problem-solving muscles in lots of ways. I also love being part of a collaborative team. The culture at CSA allows everyone to be themselves and encourages us to learn from each other.
Interviewer: What do you wish people knew about your work at CSA?
Katie: Every day is different. Our teams are busy planning, managing freelancers, and collaborating with clients to develop the best classroom products we can. I get to support the teams in many different ways.
Interviewer: What do you wish schools focused on more in terms of education and why?
Katie: I am encouraged by the many schools who incorporate equity, inclusion, and belonging into their school culture. I hope to see an even greater shift that honors the fact that students bring their whole selves to school and values the diversity of our communities.
Interviewer: What are three interesting facts about you?
Katie: I grew up in a musical family—singing since I was tiny, starting piano lessons at age 5, and picking up clarinet and handbells along the way. My favorite part of a movie or television series is the bloopers. On one of my favorite vacations, my husband and I went ziplining in an Alaskan rainforest.
